Promotional Wear
When the team giveaway is generous, thoughtful, and absolutely not made for you.

I see you… when promotional wear never fits
Generous colleague: We’re celebrating the big launch with sweatshirts? What size are you?
Me: (Smiling appreciatively) Congrats! I know how hard everyone has worked.
Colleague: It has been tough and we’re so glad it is launched. (Not diverted) Really, what size are you? We would love for you to have one. You have helped us so much!
Me: (Appreciatively but hesitant) No worries! My short arms will not do it justice but thank you so much for thinking of me. I was honored to work with the team.
Colleague: (Visibly confused)
I know I sound like an ingrate. And I assure you I am not.
But… I have so many well-intentioned pieces of promotional clothing at home that don’t fit.
I am short and my arms are even shorter than short.
T-rex, anyone?
So, most promotional wear is just not made for someone like me.
Not only do I have to roll up the sleeves so many times it looks like I am carrying a blanket on each wrist, but the waist hem hangs like a dress.
Ironically, my husband is also promotional-wear challenged.
On the other end of the spectrum, he’s 6’5″ with arms and legs that stretch for miles.
And it’s not like he can just grab one for me instead. It wouldn’t fit either of us!
I realize that on the list of real problems, this falls somewhere around losing another sock to the dryer demons.
So, I see you… and I understand how it can be a little disheartening when everyone agrees to wear their gear and you either can’t—or you look like you just started adulting today.
Nonetheless, cheers to all of us who enthusiastically celebrate the team and great causes…
while quietly hoping the next giveaway is a really cool mug.
